Media Line Olympic Village

Media Line Olympic Village
Munich, Germany. 1971-1972
Architect: Hans Hollein

In 1971 Hans Hollein won the competition for the design of the public space of the  Olympic Village of Munich with a project  that solved the environmental conditions of the external areas. Through a modular design, the project could be expanded and adapted with the pop-industrial aesthetic that was standing out during the 1970s in Europe. The Media like worked as an artificial atmospheric system that  transformed the unfavorable climatic conditions and, at the same time, it offered an audiovisual network of orientation and entertainment at the public space of the Olympic village. It offered heating and air conditioning, artificial shadows, sound, light, information, etc with an unitary system that went through the village with a modular structure of circular tubes and metallic supports.
